when we went to the capsule design festival in SF last weekend, sean and i stayed at the west coast home and headquarters of the amazing alice of feral childe. it was so lovely, and i got my first feral childe piece - a gorgeous gauzy top. i can't wait to get more of their stuff in the future!

i'm getting ready for the Capsule Design Festival this Sunday in San Francisco. i have heard that this event is really a great one. if you're in the bay area, come by and visit - i'll be in space 55. (see capsule's web site for a map) i'll be right next to the amazing bi-costal feral childe!
Sometimes the fog here is amazingly thick.

meet my new favorite design inspiration

i finished a pad of newsprint today.

the weather has been unusually warm for the coast the last few days, hovering around 85 degrees. we had a nice walk on the beach, and i even took off my shoes!

i had fun making rainbows when i watered the garden the other day.

there were so many beautiful wildflowers and grasses at our campground and along the dunes at the beach on our lost coast camping trip.

last weekend i went on a seaweed collecting trip with some friends on the lost coast, about an hour south of here. i was stunned by the beauty of the area - the mountains, the ocean, and the amazing tidepools! i collected nori, kombu, and wakame, which are all now hanging up to dry around the house. i've never collected wild plants of any kind before, and i'm so grateful to my friend allison, who shared all of her seaweed knowledge with us.

hunting

our sweet brooklyn kitty poe has turned into a hunter! after over a year of being contained to the deck, he recently figured out how to escape into the yard and has been making long sojourns through the neighborhood. we were initally worried that the cats would eat birds, which was the reason for their porch containment. that fear hasn't come to pass, but this week poe discovered a rodent's nest and has been camping out in front of it, waiting for unsuspecting victims. we're not sure what species he has found, but today i managed to take a lot of pictures of his prey. i'll spare the close ups on the blog, but hopefully we can identify what he's catching - one possibility is baby norwegian rats. if that is the case, he'll be allowed to catch as many as he likes!

its back to work today, i'm still developing some new designs that didn't get completed for the maker faire. and eureka keeps getting more and more lush - the view out our back windows is getting ever more jungly.

the maker faire was so inspiring! i was blown away by all of the varied projects and displays i saw. i spent most of my time at my own table, so i wasn't able to see very much of the rest of the fair, and i surely missed some great exhibits. i only took a few pictures - most of the time i wandered around mesmerized. the event was huge - i read an estimate of 80,000 visitors - and it was a true fair, funnel cakes and all. i am just so impressed by the drive and ardor of makers, who are compelled to create in an amazing variety of ways. being a vendor was great fun, but sometime i'd like to just be a visitor, so i can really take in all of the exhibits.

i love california poppies! sean picked these out on the hoopa valley reservation, where he works. we have tried to grow them here at the house, with little luck. i'm hoping to see lots more on the side of the road tomorrow when i drive down to the bay area for the maker faire.
